Homemade Garlic Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French or Italian bread
  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese

Make the Garlic Bread

First, preheat your oven to 350 F.

In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, garlic powder, dried parsley, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until it’s a smooth, combined paste.

Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise.

Evenly divide the garlic butter and spread it onto the cut side of each half of the bread, making sure to go all the way to the edges.

Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake for ~8-10 minutes, until the butter is melted and the edges of the bread are lightly toasted.

Take the bread out of the oven and turn on the broiler.

Sprinkle the Pecorino Romano cheese evenly over the top of both halves.

Place the baking sheet under the broiler for ~1-2 minutes. Keep a close eye on it, as it will brown very quickly. You just want the cheese to be melted and lightly golden.

Slice and serve immediately.

Homemade Garlic Bread

This is a straightforward method for making classic garlic bread with a soft interior and a crispy, cheesy top. The key is making a flavorful garlic butter that gets spread all the way to the edges of the bread. A final, quick blast under the broiler is what melts and lightly browns the cheese.
